Hindi Font Download for PC: KrutiDev, Mangal & DevLys (2026 Guide)

Need a Hindi font for your PC? This guide explains Unicode versus legacy fonts, how to install a legitimate font package on Windows, and why the exact legacy font/version matters before converting old text.

Which Hindi font should you use?

Hindi documents commonly use either Unicode Devanagari fonts such as Mangal or older non-Unicode font families such as Kruti Dev, DevLys, Shree and Chanakya.

If you only need modern Hindi in Word, websites, WhatsApp or email, Unicode is normally the portable choice. If you must open or continue an old office file, use the exact legacy font/version expected by that document—not merely a similarly named family.

Use legitimate font sources

Font licenses and distribution terms vary. Prefer the original vendor/creator, your organisation's licensed package, an official software bundle or another source you are authorised to use rather than assuming every legacy font is freeware.

Be careful with random download aggregators or installers that bundle unrelated software. Check the file type and source before installing any font package.

For modern open Unicode fonts, use recognised sources such as the font vendor, Microsoft or Google Fonts where the relevant font is officially distributed.

How to install a Hindi font on Windows

1. Obtain the legitimate .ttf/.otf font file or vendor installer for the exact font/version you need.

2. In current Windows versions, open or right-click the font file and choose the available Install option.

3. Reopen Word or the target application if the font does not appear immediately.

4. Verify the font name shown in the original document. A file created with Kruti Dev 010, for example, should not be assumed compatible with Kruti Dev 020 or 030 simply because the names are similar.

When conversion can replace a legacy font install

If you only need the readable text rather than the original legacy editing workflow, converting a confirmed legacy mapping to Unicode can remove the recipient's dependency on that legacy font.

But conversion is not a generic 'paste any legacy text' operation. SahayakTools currently scopes its engines to exact mappings such as Kruti Dev 010, DevLys 010, standard Chanakya, Shree714 and the supported AMS-TTY / AMS Calligraphy reference encoding. If the source version is unknown, preserve Word font metadata or identify the mapping before converting.

After safe legacy-to-Unicode conversion, Unicode text can be used with normal Devanagari fonts in Word, Google Docs, websites and messaging apps. Reverse Unicode-to-legacy output may require Copy for Word when English, numbers or symbols need separate normal-font runs.
